Ms. Cervantes-Bethke (Ms. Raquel)
My name is Raquel Cervantes-Bethke and I have worked here at Cherokee Heights approximately a year and a half. I have been in the St. Paul Public School District for many years and have had an opportunity to work in a variety of schools and grade levels. I am especially excited to be here at Cherokee because of the grade levels and because I have many opportunities to use my Spanish to communicate Spanish Speaking families. I work primarily with the Special Education students who have who have Individual Educational Plans. I also work with those students who may need to be evaluated to determine whether they may qualify for services. I have come to appreciate the exceptional staff who are willing to make accommodations for their students receiving Special Ed. There is also a small percentage of Spanish Speaking students that I see who may require Bilingual/Bicultural Services.

I meet with students in small groups or individually when they have specific problems that need individual support. For example, problems that may be occurring in the classroom at that time, student conflicts, problems related to their home life or in their community. Group are scheduled once a week for 30 minutes and there are anywhere from three to eight student in a group. Some of the topics covered in our small groups are Social Skills, Friendship Buidling, Anger Management, and Coping Skills. There is a larger percentage of boys than girls that are being serviced.
