Welcome to ELL!
The mission of ELL is to promote academic achievement and English language proficiency of English Language Learners. At Cherokee Heights, our English Language Learners Programs consist of English as a Second Language (ESL) and Bilingual (Latino Consent Decree, or LCD) Programs. Three full-time ELL teachers and two full-time Bilingual Educational Assistants develop the communication skills and academic language proficiency of ELL students so they can participate successfully in mainstream classes.

The ELL collaborative model is used successfully at Cherokee Heights. ELL teachers plan and teach with classroom teachers during Reader's Workshop, Writer's Workshop, and Math classes.

Bilingual Educational Assistants offer a number of services to ELL learners. They tutor students on reading or content area subjects, guide students during direct mainstream instruction or in small groups, and make contacts with parents and the community. They provide the home language school support that is essential to English language learners.
